How We Met

Our Family Photo

We still love telling the story of how we met because it never fails to make us smile. We connected online while we were both in New Orleans. Bobby was there for Navy training, and Josh was working during his summer break from college. Bobby admits he was a little unsure at first, so he brought a friend along to their first meeting. But by their second get together, when Josh hosted a crab boil, something shifted. Bobby decided to take a chance, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions of his life.

We clicked instantly and spent as much time together as we could before Bobby’s training ended. Even after just a short time, we both felt that what we had was special. Two months later, Josh flew to California to visit Bobby, exploring his hometown and hearing stories from his childhood. By the end of that trip in August 2014, we officially started dating.

Long distance was not always easy, but it strengthened our communication and deepened our commitment. We stayed long distance until we were married, and we have been side by side ever since, grateful that a chance meeting became a lasting love.

Our Leisure Time

Diving the Great Barrier Reef

In our free time, we enjoy a wide range of activities that keep us curious, active, and connected to others. We love reading books that spark our imagination, hiking in nature to recharge, and scuba diving to explore the underwater world. Camping allows us to unplug and enjoy simple moments together. We also really enjoy hosting dinners and game nights with friends, creating fun memories and sharing laughter. Going to the movies is a favorite way to relax and escape into new stories. Lately, we’ve been diving into the world of Magic the Gathering, playing with friends and enjoying the challenge and creativity it brings.

Bobby likes to run whenever he gets the chance, which helps him clear his mind, while Josh finds joy and calm in gardening, nurturing plants and watching them grow.

We are excited to share these hobbies and experiences with our child and look forward to discovering new interests together. Whether it’s an outdoor adventure, quiet reading time, or a new game, we want to encourage our child to explore their own passions and enjoy meaningful, joyful moments as a family.

What Makes Us Unique

Enjoying the Flowers

What makes us unique is how our different backgrounds and experiences come together to create a home full of love, support, and joy. As an interracial gay couple, we celebrate the richness our diverse perspectives bring. Our journey has taught us empathy, resilience, and the importance of creating a space where everyone feels safe and truly seen. Caring for others is at the heart of who we are. Bobby works as a guide dog mobility instructor, helping people who are blind or visually impaired gain independence and confidence. He has also served in the Navy for 19 years, showing his dedication and commitment to service. Josh is a pharmacist who started working with pediatric patients and now manages a pharmacy, caring for adults in the community. He values the connections he builds and the chance to support others. At home, we live with open communication, laughter, and love. Our two dogs and three cats bring joy and energy, and our close relationships with family and friends create a strong extended support system. Together, our personalities complement each other, creating a stable and joyful home where a child can feel deeply loved and supported. We are excited to share this foundation and build a family filled with unconditional love.

Our Extended Families

Family Trip

We are part of a large, close-knit extended family made up of relatives and lifelong friends we consider family. We both come from families with many cousins, aunts, and uncles, and together we have four married siblings and ten nieces and nephews. Our chosen family includes more than 20 close friends, and our circle continues to grow as two couples have recently welcomed or are expecting children.

With Extended Family

When we gather, it is always a meaningful celebration. We watch sporting events, share meals, play games, and create lifelong memories. We have blended traditions from our different cultural backgrounds, honoring our individuality while celebrating who we are together.

During Christmas, we prepare traditional Mexican dishes like homemade tamales and pozole. We stay up together on Christmas Eve playing games until midnight, and we host potluck-style feasts where everyone brings a favorite dish to share. These moments reflect what matters most to us. In both of our families, the focus is not on extravagant gifts but on spending intentional, quality time together. We prioritize connection, laughter, and ensuring the children feel loved, happy, and proud of where they come from.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home

We live in a small, close-knit community about an hour north of San Francisco. Our location gives us the best of both worlds: easy access to the city’s cultural experiences, dining, and conveniences, while still allowing us to enjoy a peaceful lifestyle away from the noise and bright lights. It’s the perfect balance between activity and tranquility.

Our home is a two-story, three-bedroom, three-bathroom house that provides plenty of space for gathering and relaxing. Our favorite place to spend time is the open-concept family room and kitchen, where we can cook, talk, and be together all at once. It’s truly the heart of our home. We also have both a front and backyard, and we especially enjoy hosting in the backyard where we grill, entertain family and friends, and make memories outdoors.

One of the things we love most about our neighborhood is how active it is. Within two miles of our home, there are three nearby parks, county historic sites, and basketball and baseball fields, giving us plenty of opportunities to stay engaged and enjoy the outdoors.

From Us to You

Dear Birth Parents,

First and foremost, we want to thank you for taking the time to learn about us and for considering our family to raise your child. We can only imagine how emotional and complex this journey must feel. The love and courage it takes to even consider an adoption plan speaks volumes about the kind of parent you are. We want you to know that we do not take your consideration lightly. It is an incredible honor, and we approach it with deep respect, humility, and gratitude.

We understand that no circumstance makes it easy to think about someone else raising your child. If you choose us, we are fully committed to honoring you and your role in your child’s life story. Your child will always know where they come from. We believe their story begins with you, and that is something to be cherished and respected. We will speak about you with kindness and honesty, and we will ensure your child grows up understanding the strength and love behind your decision. We are committed to maintaining a connection in whatever way feels comfortable and appropriate for everyone involved. We will gladly send letters, pictures, emails, and updates sharing milestones, growth, and everyday moments. Our hope is that these glimpses into their life will reassure you that your child is safe, thriving, and deeply loved.

You may wonder why you should choose us. The truth is, being chosen would never feel like something we earned. It would feel like a profound gift. My husband and I have been together for over ten years and married for nine. From early in our relationship, we spoke often about building a family and raising children in a home filled with laughter, stability, and strong values. We have built our marriage on communication, faith, perseverance, and friendship. We support one another through every season of life, and we approach challenges as a team. That foundation gives us confidence that we are ready to be loving, patient, and devoted parents.

We both grew up surrounded by siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles, and close family friends who felt like family. Our childhoods were filled with birthday parties, holiday traditions, weekend gatherings, and the comfort of always having someone to lean on. That environment shaped who we are. It taught us the importance of community, generosity, and unconditional love. It is the kind of life we have always dreamed of creating for our children.

If you choose us, your child will not only be loved by the two of us but by a large, joyful extended family of more than 100 relatives and close friends. There will always be someone to cheer them on at games, celebrate birthdays, attend school events, or simply offer encouragement and guidance. They will grow up knowing they are supported, valued, and never alone. Our home will be one filled with warmth, open conversation, shared meals, bedtime stories, and traditions that create lasting memories.

We promise to nurture your child’s unique personality and talents. Whether they love sports, music, academics, art, or something entirely their own, we will encourage their passions and help them pursue their dreams. We will teach them resilience, compassion, and respect for others. Most importantly, we will make sure they always feel safe, secure, and unconditionally loved.

Thank you again for considering us. No matter what you decide, we deeply respect you and the love you have for your child. If we are blessed to be chosen, we will spend a lifetime honoring that gift and raising your child with all the love our hearts can give.
